When a domain lapses, the site and every email address on it stop at the same moment — and after the grace period, anyone can register it. Renewals fail quietly: an expired card, an old billing email, auto-renew switched off. A month of lead time turns that into a to-do. Pair it with DNS monitoring to catch a hijack too.
- Looks the domain up over RDAP, the registries' structured successor to WHOIS, at the server IANA lists for its extension.
- Warns 30 days before expiry and flags it as a problem inside 7 days, or as soon as the registry reports it on hold, in its redemption period or pending deletion.
- Registries without RDAP (.ro, .de, .es, .it, .eu, .io) keep their expiry date private, so there Relvato confirms the domain is still delegated in DNS — an expired or held domain drops out of the registry's zone.
Why doesn't it show an expiry date for my .ro or .de domain?
Those registries publish no expiry date over RDAP, and their WHOIS terms forbid automated lookups. Relvato checks the domain is still delegated instead — that still catches it expiring, being put on hold or being deleted.
My registrar auto-renews. Do I still need this?
Auto-renew fails more often than it looks: an expired card, a closed billing email, a registrar account nobody logs into. Relvato tells you while there's still time to fix it.
