Sitemap monitoring — tell search engines the truth about your pages.

Your sitemap tells Google and Bing which pages exist and when they changed. Relvato reads it every day — every file of a sitemap index, gzipped ones too — and makes sure it lists live pages at their real address, with dates search engines can trust.

What it checks
  • ✓Every sitemap can be fetched and read, within 50,000 URLs and 50 MB per file
  • ✓No 404s, redirects or noindex pages listed
  • ✓Pages listed at the site's own address — no http, no other host
  • ✓A lastmod per page: not one date for everything, not re-stamped, not in the future
  • ✓robots.txt names the sitemap
  • ✓Language alternates link back to each other
Why it matters

Sitemaps go wrong quietly. An SEO plugin update stamps every page with today's date, so search engines learn to ignore your dates; a migration leaves old http or redirecting URLs listed; deleted pages linger as 404s; a growing site passes 50,000 URLs in one file and the rest is never read. None of it shows on the site itself.

How it works
  • Reads the sitemaps robots.txt names — or the usual addresses — following every sitemap index and reading gzipped files too.
  • Looks at 25 listed pages per run, picking up where the last run stopped, so every page is visited over time without loading your site.
  • Compares this run's dates with the last run's, to tell real updates from dates that are re-stamped on every build.
Questions, answered
Do I need a plugin?

No. Sitemap monitoring reads your public sitemaps on any site, WordPress or not.

Why does a blanket lastmod matter?

When nearly every page shares one date — or the date changes on every build — search engines can't tell what changed, so they stop trusting the field. Give each page the date its own content last changed.

Should a multilingual site split its sitemap?

It helps: one sitemap per language, under one index, lets Google Search Console report submitted and indexed pages per language. Relvato suggests it when several languages share one file.
